“Laudato Youth Initiative Unveils 14th Edition of its Laudato Si Voices Magazine Amplifying Voices for Catholic Youth-Led Environmental Action Across Uganda and Beyond”
Kampala, Uganda — Laudato Youth Initiative Media Team is pleased to announce the release of its 14th edition, highlighting Uganda’s youth achievements and leadership in environmental restoration and integral ecology in action. This issue features stories of young leaders advancing restoration initiatives, Season of Creation Activities, STEM Innovations for Climate Solutions with Jdiobe STEM Foundation, Research on what is happening to our common home, raising mental health awareness, national environmental alerts (e.g., El Niño updates), and promoting storytelling for integral ecology.
Key highlights include coverage of the Laudato Si’ Green Festival in Jinja (Uganda’s ONLY Faith-Inspired Environmental Festival), the Laudato Youth Nature Walk in Fort Portal (To discover what is happening to the world around us and head to Laudato Si Chapter 1- What is happening to our Common home), the Laudato Si’ Seminar in Mbarara, and tree-planting drives that are transforming communities across Uganda.
The 14th edition also honors significant milestones, including the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations in Rome, the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi, and King Oyo’s ecological legacy. According to Ms. Immaculate Kisembo, the Publications Editor,
“The publication underscores that climate solutions thrive when communities unite, observe what is happening around them, and dialogue with the people who experience the impact of these changes. For young people, she says it’s a learning opportunity and space to get involved as part of the solution using their talents and the community resources, which is sometimes the wisdom of elders to create a practical impact”.
This edition highlights the transformative work of Laudato Si’ Clubs in schools, universities, parishes, dioceses, and communities. These stories show how building ecological communities rooted in faith, cultural wisdom, and stewardship is advancing the message of Laudato Si ’, beginning in Uganda but growing its impact across Africa.
Visits by Laudato Youth leaders to Laudato Si’ Clubs have strengthened young people’s commitment to turning concern for creation into practical action within their institutions, churches, and communities.
Reflecting on the words of Pope Francis, “everything is connected,” the editorial team encourages readers to recognize that caring for our common home begins with both individual and collective action. Everyone’s unique contributions are essential to creating positive change.
