By Laudato Voices. Β Reflecting on the work of the Laudato Youth Initiative and its role in advancing a faith approach in implementing SDGs
With only five years left to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Laudato Youth Initiative (LYI) is rising boldly to the challengeβfocusing its youthful energy and faith-driven mission on SDG 13: Climate Action. (Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts).
In a time when the climate crisis threatens every corner of our planet, the Laudato Youth Initiative is changing the narrative. From the heart of Uganda, our vibrant network of young changemakers in Laudato Si Clubs is not only raising awareness but also transforming communities through innovative action.
Creative Action, Grounded in Faith
Laudato Youth Initiaveβs work is rooted in the catholic Social teachings, SDG13, the bridging the knowledge gap for Ugandan environmental laws and the message of Laudato Siβ, Pope Francisβ groundbreaking encyclical that calls us to care for our common home. Drawing especially from Chapter One: βWhat is Happening to Our Common Homeβ, through our laudato Si Clubs. We educate and empower communities to recognize the environmental challenges they face: deforestation, flash floods, Β pollution, rising temperatures etc and to unite in urgent and loving response with action as stated in our motto “United for Climate Action”. We believe faith is a powerful driver of change, and through this model, we are uniting youth in groups (Laudato Si Clubs) and helping communities make the connection between ecological crisis and moral responsibility.
Food and nutrition are intrinsically linked to numerousΒ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG2 Zero Hunger, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote agriculture. Our Laudato Youth Initiative is advancing climate – Smart Models of Farming in its Laudato Si clubs to connect with communities and improve their nutrition from their schools and community gardens.Β

Inspiring Stories, Bold Solutions
One of our most powerful tools is storytelling. Through educational films and awareness campaigns, we bring to life the urgency of climate action. These films capture both the devastating effects of climate change and the incredible spirit of youth-led innovation in Uganda and beyond.
But we donβt stop at awareness. Laudato Youth are also designing creative, localized solutions to climate challengesβfrom eco-smart farming methods to sustainable waste management practicesβall led by young people who refuse to wait for change. They are the change.
Engaging Online & On the Ground
Whether itβs organizing tree-planting drives, the Laudato Si Green Festival, hosting clean-up campaigns, or sparking dialogue on social media, Laudato Youth are bridging the digital and physical worlds. Through community engagement activities and strong online presence, we are uniting global and local voices in the movement for climate justice.

Our work contributes directly to the SDGs, with a strong emphasis on SDG 13, while also touching others like SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The Time is Now
With only five years remaining, our mission is urgent. But it is also filled with hope.
Hope in the creativity of youth.
Hope in the power of faith.
Hope in the strength of collective action.
We must aim at conservation not only for us but also for the generations to come
Doreen uses poetry to explain what children go through and advocates for a balanced Diet for children. Food and nutrition are intrinsically linked to numerousΒ Sustainable Development GoalsΒ (SDGs), particularly SDG2 Zero Hunger, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote agriculture.Β Achieving SDG 2 is crucial for broader development, as adequate nutrition is fundamental for good health, education, and overall well-being of our natural environment.Β
Together, we are shaping a new storyβone where young people lead the charge in caring for our planet and safeguarding it for generations to come.
