We are a non-profit Catholic Religious Youth-Led initiative in Uganda that promotes the encyclical Laudato Si’ and Enviromental Action to create more sustainable communities. Our activities and programs focus on responding to climate change through clubs in schools, universities, and dioceses.

Local Action for Climate Resilience. In Bundibugyo, Uganda, Mr. John Tumwesige, leader of our Laudato Si’ Club at St. Padre Pio Nyahuka Parish, shared with us how they are witnessing the harsh realities of climate change, from floods that sometimes disrupt learners study program to droughts that affect food production seasons and ecosystems in the area

But even with limited means, John and his team are building resilience through local environmental and economic initiatives growing cocoa and planting fruit and indigenous resilient trees, advancing soil conservation, and youth-led awareness.

They dream of going even further: transforming their work into a proactive, long-term climate resilience strategy for their community and we believe they can.

Faith. Action. Hope. This is what Laudato Si’ in Uganda looks like and remains key to our Laudato Si Clubs

Drawing inspiration from the Africa Climate Summit

Drawing inspiration from the Africa Climate Summit and the resilience-building focus on tMitigation, Adaptation and Societal Transformation (MAST) framework Model, Laudato Si’ Clubs are becoming vital spaces where innovation faith and ecological education meet. These clubs are not only teaching young people the values of integral ecology rooted in Catholic social teaching, but also engaging them in hands-on, practical activities that promote sustainable environmental stewardship.

As Fr. John Leonard shares from our Laudato Si’ Club of St. Joseph Buyinjabutoole Parish, young learners are being formed not just in faith, but in action learning better methods of protecting creation while building community resilience in the face of climate change.

The once-clear waters of Uganda’s most iconic Lake Bunyonyi are now changing and not for the better but turning brown and murky. According to media reports Fish are suffocating. Foul smells fill the air. Locals are afraid to use the water.

What could be going on?
Some think it might be Siltation from erosion, others Organic pollution from runoff and others Oxygen depletion suffocating aquatic life the real cause is yet to be established.

Lake Bunyonyi’s case is a serious issue that must re awaken everyones concern. Suspected to be environmental stress this will put the communities that depend on it are at risk as well. In the meantime it would be a strong lesson for us Ugandans to act locally and

✔️ Practice eco-friendly farming
✔️ Support local conservation efforts and much more as we wait to see the government decision Lake Buyonyi’s incident is a strong lesson for us to reflect on our water conservation practices.

We shouldn’t let this natural treasure become a memory.

Celebrate Creation Day with the Laudato Youth Initiative! All our talents and gift matter wether as an individual, group, or community, our Laudato Si’ Clubs invite you to gather in prayer and listen deeply to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor. Let us respond with a prayers and actions that promote peace and care for creation.

Creation Day is a time of gratitude, reflection, action, and prayer a sacred moment to honor the gift of creation and renew our commitment to care for our common home.

Here’s how we at Laudato Youth are celebrating:

- For most of us have began the day with Prayer & Reflection
- We will spend time in nature visiting our Creation Gardens and caring for trees we’ve planted. At Laudato, we don’t just plant trees, with our one million tree planting drive we plant trees that feed, restore ecosystems, and are cared for.
- We will plant more fruit Indigenous and carbon sinking trees.
- ⁠we have committed to promote peace and live peacefully through song with our peace theme “Let Creation Sing Again”
- We will engage with communities through both prayer and action
- Mobilize youth to Strengthen our commitment to building a climate-resilient generation of Laudato Youth, dedicated to advancing the ecological legacy of Pope Francis

As we mark the tenth anniversary of this day, which coincides with the publication of the Encyclical Laudato Si’, we are reminded of the deep connection between faith and the care for our common home. Today, we celebrate the Jubilee as “Pilgrims of Hope” a timely call to continue nurturing a world of peace, justice, and sustainability.

Let us sow seeds of hope for a brighter future and commit to protecting the Earth for generations to come.

Our Season of Creation will be a beautiful time for all our Laudato Si Clubs to reflect deeply on the themes of Peace and Hope for Creation, under our year long slogan: “Sowing Seeds of Peace and Hope for Creation.”

We will sow seeds of peace by engaging in interfaith dialogue, praying for peace, and build bridges for peace! We all need to be peacemakers in our communities.

We will nurture hope for creation by living out the spiritual message of Laudato Si – “Praise be to You!” – through music and prayer, as we give thanks to God for the gift of creation and for Laudato Si, the precious legacy Pope Francis has given to the Church.

We are also continuing our One Million Tree Planting Drive, and during this Season of Creation, we warmly invite you to join us in this mission. #LYI1MTreePlantingDrive

Addressing the faithful gathered in the Paul VI Hall for his weekly General Audience, Pope Leo XIV turned his thoughts once more to the world’s many conflict zones. This visit marks an important step in our ongoing commitment to strengthening the involvement of our Laudato Si’ Clubs in climate-smart farming and agricultural innovation.

As part of this commitment, the Youth Initiative—through strategic partnerships—is looking forward to expanding and enhancing its practical, school- and community-based programs. These efforts begin with teaching young people the value of farming and its vital role in agriculture, the backbone of our country’s economy.

We are excited to share with you that the 11th edition of Laudato Voices Magazine will soon be available online. This rich edition features powerful stories of ecological conversion.

Pope Leo has consistently drawn connections between environmental degradation and broader global issues, embracing the concept of integral ecology—a theme strongly emphasized by Pope Francis in his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. This edition highlights how the crises facing our planet—social, economic, and environmental—are deeply intertwined. The Laudato Youth Initiative is carefully walking in the footsteps of Pope Francis through our small “palms–big footprint” approach.

This edition also features our year-long theme, “Sowing Seeds of Peace and Hope for Creation,” which leads us into the Season of Creation. In our recently concluded Laudato Si’ Green Festival, we reflected on the interconnectedness of peace and the environment, recognizing that caring for creation is inseparable from the pursuit of justice and peace.

From participating in online prayer activities, streaming Mass, and engaging with Catholic content on social platforms, to using storytelling, podcasts, and short videos to advocate for social justice, creation care, and spiritual growth, the younger generation is transforming digital media into a vibrant mission territory.

Digital tools offer young people opportunities not just for communication, but for evangelization, community building, and faith formation.
