Small Christian Communities at St Adolf Holy Cross Parish play a vital role in living out the principles of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on care for our common home. Guided by their patron Saint St Adolf Mukasa Ludigo and by the Holy Spirit they have been able to achieve a lot by embracing the values of Laudato Si’.This had helped them to respond to Pope Francis’ invitation to care for mother Earth.The SCCs engage in praying, cleanliness, tree planting and animal rearing in homes and villages .

Why the Laudato Si’ Club at St. Adolf Parish? Many of our communities are grappling with increasingly erratic weather patterns  failed rains, destructive floods, and prolonged droughts  all of which are making farming difficult and unpredictable.
 These environmental challenges have devastated agriculture, weakened local economies, and left many families struggling with food insecurity.In some areas, wells run dry during extended droughts, while floods contaminate water sources, putting children at risk and making it difficult for them to attend school. These cycles of crisis leave our Small Christian Communities vulnerable and chip away at the hope of a better future.

For Laudato Youth Initiative, this reality is deeply personal. Children are among the most affected many miss school due to hunger, lack access to clean drinking water, and must travel long distances just to find it. This contributes to malnutrition, fatigue, illness, and lost educational opportunities.

The Laudato Si’ Club at St. Adolf Parish is responding to this urgent need by prioritizing sanitation, cleanliness, and food security. We believe these are not just immediate needs but long-term investments in the well-being of families and future generations. Through this mission, we seek to restore dignity, renew hope, and protect our common home.

Laudato Youth Initiative engages the SCCs at St. Adolf in the following;

  1. Care for creation: Members work together to promote environmental sustainability, reduce waste, and protect natural resources.
  2. Support vulnerable communities: SCCs reach out to those most affected by environmental degradation, such as the poor and marginalized.
  3. Promote integral ecology: Christians reflect on the interconnectedness of human and environmental well-being, seeking to address social and environmental issues together. By integrating Laudato Si’ into their lives, SCCs help to;
  • Deepen the member’s faith: By reflecting on God’s creation and our role as stewards.
  • Build relationships: By working together on environmental and social issues.
  • Serve others: By promoting sustainability and supporting vulnerable communities.

SCCs at the parish are a powerful way to live out the message of Laudato Si’, fostering a sense of community, care for creation, and commitment to justice and peace.
