Laudato Youth Initiative learning from Avail Fruits of Faith Farm to form
Our clubs president, was inspired to take on the challenge on behalf of the Laudato Youth Initiative and the many clubs we run in schools, universities, churches, and communities. She checked in and had an amazing time walking through the expo, where many farms, schools, and organizations were showcasing their products.
She also visited our mentor and partner, Avail Fruits of Faith Farm. It was exciting to see how his work in urban farming is transforming lives. The lesson from her is young people, “we need to turn our passion into a profit-making venture”. It felt like spending time at a learning hub she added, I had an opportunity to witness real action urban farming, agricultural innovations, sustainability, and demonstrations which were taking place at the Expo. Other people were trading in value addtion on products like coffee, livestock, poultry, mechanisation, educational sessions were very educative, from commercial farming products by Bigdad Agri-Tourism Farm, which we recently visited and it specialises in commercial farming and the value of crops like Macadamia to Mechanised farming the expo was very educative. Fruits of Faith Farm is much more than a working farm: it is a demonstration garden and living classroom where innovative agricultural practices are shared with youths, farmers, entrepreneurs, and communities. Through its demonstration gardens, the farm teaches the importance of irrigation technology, crop protection methods, and the creation of micro-climates that help combat climate change.
Our Leaders recently witnessed first hand innovative farming, from green house soiless farming to catfish farming that enhances production and regenerative agriculture. Our Laudato Youth Programs are now tailored towards digital optimisation in Agriculture.

Uganda is one of the most agrarian countries in sub-Saharan Africa. For millions of Ugandans, agriculture is both a way of life and the backbone of the economy. The latest Agricultural Annual Survey shows that about 68.1% of Uganda’s workforce is in agriculture, which contributed around 24.1% to the national GDP in 2021/22 (Uganda Bureau of Statistics [UBOS], 2022; Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries [MAAIF], 2025). Because of this, any move toward sustainable development and environmental care must focus on agriculture, especially by using modern tools and involving young people.
