Harvest Money Expo at Kololo Airstrip, defining the future of Sustainable Agriculture in Uganda

Laudato Voices | Harvest Money Expo at Kololo| March 2, 2026

An inspirational moment is happening at the Harvest Money Expo in Kampala. This event is one of East Africa’s biggest agricultural exhibitions, organised annually by VisionGroup. It champions farming as a business, value addition, and cooperatives. As reported by New Vision, the expo is “a platform for learning, networking and showcasing modern agricultural technologies” (New Vision, 2026). This year’s edition marks the 10th anniversary of the expo. It has brought together innovators, farmers, agribusinesses, students, and experts from across the continent to learn, network, and grow together.

Ms Sarah, the Laudato Si Clubs President at the Harvest Money Expo 2026

Our clubs president, was inspired to take on the challenge on behalf of the Laudato Youth Initiative and the many clubs we run in schools, universities, churches, and communities. She checked in and had an amazing time walking through the expo, where many farms, schools, and organizations were showcasing their products. Her epic moment was visiting the stall of an alumnus of the Laudato Si Club of Holy Cross Lake View, who was operating a family business at “Kazibwe Family Farm” she said.

She also visited our mentor and partner, Avail Fruits of Faith Farm. It was exciting to see how his work in urban farming is transforming lives. The lesson from her is young people, “we need to turn our passion into a profit-making venture”. It felt like spending time at a learning hub she added, I had an opportunity to witness real action urban farming, agricultural innovations, sustainability, and demonstrations which were taking place at the Expo. Other people were trading in value addtion on products like coffee, livestock, poultry, mechanisation, educational sessions were very educative, from commercial farming products by  Bigdad Agri-Tourism Farm, which we recently visited and it specialises in commercial farming and the value of crops like Macadamia to Mechanised farming the expo was very educative.

Visiting Biglad Agric-Tourism Farm, Ms. Immaculate LYI, Programs Manager, appreciates the importance of promoting agroecology that centers on community empowerment and Family involvement as pillars to increasing productivity and strengthening resilience to climate change as she was moved around by children who are very vast with knowledge of how the farm is run.

For me, this experience brought the community to the forefront of agricultural innovation and highlighted the critical role youth play in this sector; at most stalls, you wouldn’t miss young peoples she noted, saying youth participation at the Harvest Money Expo was vivid and the organisers also earlier on reported that over the years the number of youth attendance especially schools has been increasing. More students and young innovators are now showcasing agri-tech solutions and sustainable farming models. Their involvement energises the sector and fosters adoption of new practices. These changes are vital for Uganda’s food security and economic growth. We too in Laudato believe in this fact.

This impact aligns directly with our upcoming event, the Laudato Si Green Festival in Jinja. This event promotes both agricultural innovations and the moral and spiritual obligation to care for creation to build peace in communities. It encourages sustainable practices, empowering the community to work towards ecological recovery. We now all know that Climate Change is the leading cause of poor yields, and it also affects the economy, compromises our food basket, and leads to poverty in our communities.

Mr. Joseph Male and Avail Fruits of faith Farm staff at our Last Years Laudato Si Green Festival sharing knowledge with students on the importance of irrigation systems, the use of innovative methods to increase yields, crop protection, mordern seeds highlighting  ways of  incorporating micro climates into the gardening to address climate change.

This year’s Laudato Si Green Festival is inviting schools and youth to practically share knowledge and learn from national experts, such as Avail Fruits of Faith Farm, whose director, Mr. Male Joseph, was the chief guest for our 2025 festival and urged the thousands of youth gathered to Embrace Digital Optimization in Agriculture and Innovation. This year, the theme of our festival is “Environmental Conservation for Peace and Sustainable Development.” We aim to cultivate a generation equipped to drive sustainability, peace, and agricultural transformation, underscoring the importance of youth-led innovation in achieving the goals of Laudato Si. We also want to nurture eco-consciousness among Uganda’s youth, raising awareness of the moral responsibility to care for our common home.
