Immaculate Kisembo | Nurturing Indigenous Wisdom for Ecological Hope | 29th Dec, 2025
As you may know, our land has spoken through forests, rivers, seeds, and seasons for generations. Our grassroots communities have listened and learned how to live in harmony with nature.
Today, that wisdom matters more than ever.
Climate change threatens our ecosystem, cultures, and future.
Hope is growing as we see young leaders reconnect with ancestral knowledge and turn it into climate action. We believe God speaks to us through our faith, cultures, and languages. That is why we must listen and act, which is the mission of the Laudato Youth Initiative.
Through climate education rooted in faith and Indigenous wisdom, Laudato Youth empowers young people to care for our common home.
We believe that solutions to today’s ecological crisis come from both science and traditional knowledge passed down through generations. By combining them, we can truly transform how we care for ecology and address biodiversity loss.
Indigenous wisdom teaches us:
To respect the land.
To protect biodiversity.
To take only what we need and give back more than we take.
By learning from elders and local communities, we will rediscover sustainable practices that restore ecosystems and strengthen resilience.
Through climate education programs, Laudato Si’ Clubs, and tree-growing projects, our young people are nurturing indigenous trees, which are symbols of life, culture, and hope for the climate.
Each tree planted carries a story.
Each lesson learned inspires action.
Laudato Youth transforms knowledge into action.
Young people become educators, advocates, and stewards of creation, bridging tradition and innovation.
This is ecological conversion in action.
By nurturing Indigenous wisdom through climate education, we are planting seeds of hope for our communities, our planet, and future generations.
Together, we are building a world where people and nature thrive.
The future is rooted in wisdom.
And the youth are leading the way.
