At St. Maria Goretti, we passionately nurture responsible, compassionate, and socially conscious youth, strengthening our resolve every year. Partnering with the Laudato Youth Initiative, we have embraced a mission that boldly extends beyond academics – one that shapes the hearts, minds, and actions of learners to inspiring them to become true stewards of the future.

St. Maria Goretti Girls S.S Fort Portal welcomes the Laudato Si Club

Inspired by Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home, the Laudato Youth Initiative encourages students to feel and take responsibility toward the environment, one another, and the world around them. At St. Maria Goretti, this message has found fertile ground.

Our students willingly engage in practices that promote sustainability, respect for nature, and mindful living. From planting trees to mastering waste management and recycling, they discover that even small actions can create lasting impact. These hands-on activities help them view stewardship not as an obligation, but as a fulfilling way of life.

One of the strongest pillars of the Laudato Youth Initiative is leadership formation. At our school, learners are encouraged to take initiative, propose solutions, and lead by example. Environmental clubs, student-led campaigns, and community clean-up drives have empowered many to step forward as role models among their peers.

This leadership training does more than build confidence—it sows the seeds of lasting responsibility. Our young people learn that their voices matter, their actions influence change, and their ideas can guide others toward a more sustainable world.

Practical engagement is at the heart of this journey.

Students have participated in: Tree planting activities, recycling and waste reduction campaigns, awareness sessions on climate change and environmental care, creative projects, including art and poetry inspired by ecological themes. These activities help them connect classroom knowledge with real-world needs, making their learning more meaningful and impactful.

The success of this initiative at St. Maria Goretti (SMG) is the result of collaboration. Teachers, parents, and administrators unite to create an environment where ecological responsibility is normalized and celebrated. Together, we are building a community that values the dignity of creation and its preservation.

Our journey with the Laudato Youth Initiative continues to inspire hope. As learners are embracing this call with enthusiasm, while engaging in strategic advocacy and practical action response projects and initiatives for ecological conversion. Our Club, like the many other Laudato Si clubs founded by the Laudato Youth Initiative (LYI), is fostering bold climate education, nurturing talent, and teaching faith and cultural eco-values. With all these, we are confident they are being well-formed and will become stewards of the future who will protect the planet, uphold human dignity, care for the poor, and lead with the values every girl child deserves.

Lastly, at St. Maria Goretti, the seeds of stewardship have been planted by LYI. With continued guidance, encouragement, and faith, these seeds will grow into a flourishing generation committed to caring for our common home.
