Laudato Si Green Festival – 18 -19th July 2025

Laudato Youth Initiative & Holy Cross Lake View S.S.S – Jinja to host a Historic Event!

In a joyful and Spirit-filled celebration, the Laudato Si’ Club of Holy Cross Lake View S.S.S – Jinja, under the guidance of the Laudato Youth Initiative, will hold its annual Laudato Si’ Green Festival on 19th July 2025, under the theme: “Sowing Seeds of Peace & Hope for Creation.”

This will be the first such festival following the historic moment when His Holiness Pope Leo XIV proclaimed the “Care for Creation Day” as an official feast day in the universal Church. This sacred event has been prayerfully organized to celebrate:

  1. The Promulgation of the Day Care for Creation Mass

2 . The Jubilee Year, Pilgrims of Green Hope Campaign

3 . Laudato Si’ 10th Anniversary.

The Holy Eucharistic celebration of a Green Mass will be led by Fr. Muto Gerald, Diocesan Chancellor of Jinja Diocese, offering thanksgiving for the gift of creation, praying for those afflicted by climate change, and the role of the youth in the Church’s mission to care for our common home. Other activities of the festival will include; Community Clean-up, keynote addresses about the Church’s ecological teachings, Tree Planting as a living witness of stewardship, Green Eco Exhibitions and more creation-centered engagements.

Young people from across the nation will gather for this first-of-its-kind celebration, uniting with Church and community leaders to walk the synodal path of climate action, fueled by a fervent desire to live out Pope Francis’ ecological vision and call to conversion in Laudato Si’. This is more than a festival It is a spirit-led moment when young people will encounter Christ in integral ecology to give hope, share faith, and promote ecological justice.

About the Laudato Si’ Green Festival

The Laudato Si’ Green Festival is a youth-led environmental action program organized by Laudato Youth Initiative located at John Paul Justice and Peace Centre -Kampala through its care for creation implementing arm of Laudato Si’ Clubs (LSiC). The festival seeks to mobilize young people in prayer, reflection, and practical action to care for our common home, inspired by the spirit and message of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’.

Rooted in both spiritual formation and human development, the festival serves as a dynamic platform for intergenerational dialogue, mentorship, and climate resilience building. It empowers youth to become ecological citizens and prophetic voices in their communities, promoting a lifestyle of sustainability, care for creation, and integral ecology.

Laudato Si’ Green Festival Objective

To empower young people with a deeper understanding of how faith and ecology intersect, using Laudato Si’ and Catholic Social Teaching as guiding frameworks. Through spiritual reflection and practical action, we aim to inspire a generation that keeps alive the ecological legacy of Pope Francis and Uganda’s rich tradition of faith-rooted stewardship, especially through figures like St. Adolf, Patron Saint of Ecology and Herdsmen.

More to this event is celebrating our Jubilee Year’s Commitment to journey with others as “Pilgrims of Green Hope” a campaign that has focused on mobilizing  faith communities in climate action activities throughout this Jubilee Year of Hope.

PRELUDE: ALL CREATURES

All creatures of our God and King

Lift up your voice and with us sing

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Thou, burning sun with golden beam

Thou, silver moon with softer gleam

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless

And worship Him in humbleness

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son

And praise the Spirit, Three-in-One

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

All the redeemed washed by His blood

Come and rejoice in His great love

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Christ has defeated every sin

Cast all your burdens now on Him

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

He shall return in pow’r to reign

Heaven and earth will join to say

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Then who shall fall on bended knee?

All creatures of our God and King

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

ENTRANCE: TO GOD IN GLADNESS SING

To God in gladness sing. How great his name!

Give thanks to him for his marvelous deeds, Alleluia, alleluia!

  1. He came among his people,

He dwelt among the poor,

He chose of all the weakest,

the humblest to befriend.

 2. Like rain that falls from heaven

and makes the earth bring forth,

word refreshes our hearts,

     law transforms our life.

 3. No longer are we servants,

His friends each one he calls.

He brings us to his table,

to share his bread and wine.

 4. The Light that shines in darkness,

the Victor over death,

He enters into glory;

like him, we too shall rise.

 5. The flame of love, his Spirit,

the Universe, pervades.

Through him, a new creation

begins and never ends.

MEDITATION: PSALM 104

Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Bless the LORD, O my soul!

O LORD, my God, you are great indeed!

How manifold are your works, O LORD! The Earth is full of your creatures.

Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD be glad in his works!

Pleasing to him be my theme; I will be glad in the LORD.

Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

If you take away their breath, they perish and return to their dust.

When you send forth your spirit, they are created, and

you renew the face of the earth.

Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

AND CAN IT BE

And can it be that I should gain,

An interest in the Savior’s blood?

Died He for me, who caused His pain?

For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love! how can it be

That Thou, my God, should die for me?

Amazing love! how can it be

That Thou, my God, should die for me!

He left His Father’s throne above,

So free, so infinite His grace;

Emptied Himself of all but love,

And bled for Adam’s helpless race;

’Tis mercy all, immense and free;

For, O my God, it found out me.

’Tis mercy all, immense and free;

For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,

  Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;

Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray,

I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;

My chains fell off, my heart was free;

I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

My chains fell off, my heart was free;

I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;

Jesus, and all in Him is mine!

Alive in Him, my living Head,

And clothed in righteousness divine,

Bold I approach th’eternal throne,

And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Bold I approach th’eternal throne,

And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
