Celebrating Legacy and Sustainability: The Launch of the Fr. Bob (Robert) Hesse, C.S.C., Sustainability Project

On Palm Sunday, the Laudato Si Club at Holy Cross Lake View proudly unveiled the Fr Bob Hesse Sustainability Project, a heartfelt tribute to their beloved founder, Fr. Bob Hesse C.S.C. This special day began with a solemn mass led by Msgr. Isaiah Mayombo, the Vicar General of Fort Portal Diocese, setting a reflective tone for the events that followed.

In a touching ceremony, Fr. Prosper Atukwatse CSC, the headteacher of HCLV S.S.S, graced and actively participated in the Fr. Bob Hesse memorial tree planting these trees are a symbol of Fr. Bob’s enduring legacy. This act of remembrance was just the beginning of the clubs’ commitment to both honoring his memory and promoting sustainability within our community.

Following the tree planting, the club members lead by their patron Ms. Immaculate Kisembo embarked on a spiritual pilgrimage to Bugembe Parish. There, they honored Fr. Bob further by planting additional memorial and fruit trees around the other schools he started at the parish, reinforcing their dedication to nurturing the environment. The pilgrimage included a meaningful reflection and spiritual talk led by Fr. Innocent Ahuniriza CSC, which inspired all members to deepen their connection with the environment and faith.

As part of the day’s activities, the club members took the time to clean around Fr. Bob’s grave, offering prayers and even singing a song in his memory, a touching testament to the impact he his having on their lives and the lives of other people.

The day continued with a social hour, allowing the club members to bond and share their thoughts and inspirations before exploring the Holy Cross Parish in Bugembe.

To wrap up this significant day, Fr Berry Apire CSC led a question-and-answer session, followed by a final blessing. With our hearts full of gratitude and inspiration, we returned to school, determined to carry forward Fr Bob’s legacy.

The Laudato Si Club members engage Fr. Apire in question-and-answer session to learn more about the enduring legacy of Fr. Bob, his life, mission in Bugembe and what that might mean of their to build a legacy in life as well. This was a though provoking session that saw students exhibit a lot of innovative ideas of what this program will mean for them to also set a pace of building on the legacy of Fr. Bob. A missionary. An educator. Who worked hard to uplift others

The Laudato Si Club at Holy Cross Lake View will remain committed to continuing Fr Bob’s vision by engaging in more environmental initiatives. They plan to engage their school and parish to become model green ministries and work with the community of Wanyange and Bugembe to uplift the lowly and care for the environment by creatively inspiring fellow young people to engage in creative mind provoking activities that foster faith, growth and empowerment of young people while developing sustainable models that foster sustainable development, which remaining intentional at striving to make Holy Cross Lake View and our entire community shine brighter, honoring the memory of a truly cherished figure in their lives and the life of the Community of Wanyange and beyond.
