There was joy on 31 May 2024 as JPIIJPC welcomed and officially received its prestigious Premio San Giovanni Paulo II (St. John Paul II Vatican Award) from JOHN PAUL II VATICAN FOUNDATION in Rome!

The reception was of this maiden prestigious award which has been in the news all over the world the past months from the time of its announcement in February through the process of the determining the winner to the time of its release in the Vatican on May 22nd that attracted media attention all over the world. When Fr. Leonard Olobo the director of the center was invited to the Vatican to receive it. Today was a memorable day that the award arrived at the Centre with a relic of St. John Paul II.

The reception of the Award was officiated by His Excellency Archbishop Luigi Bianco, Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda who commended the Centre for its work in promoting human dignity. Fr. Leonard Olobo, CSC the recipient of the award presented it to Mr. Alfred Avuni, the director of the Centre. The Provincial Superior Congregation of Holy Cross, Province of East Africa Fr. CAXTON PETER MAYANJA CSC., the representative of the archbishop of Kampala, the political and religious leaders were present to witnesses this auspicious occasion.

One of the key reasons behind the success of the JP2JPC is their unwavering commitment to the values of faith and justice.

Through their various ministries and programs, they have been able to touch the lives of many individuals and bring hope to those in need. By embodying the motto “FAITH DOING JUSTICE,” they have shown that even the smallest acts of kindness and compassion can have a significant impact on the world around us.

Through their various programs, such as seminars, workshops, and spiritual guidance, they have been able give hope to refugees, raise voices against human trafficking, settle people in war torn areas of Northern Uganda, light refugee camps, care for creation in which we partner.

By advocating for social justice, human rights, and reconciliation, they have been able to address the root causes of conflict and work Uganda Police Force to train security forces on ways of enforcing the law without too much force towards building a more peaceful and just world for all.

By organizing tree planting events on birthday, the one baptism one tree campaign and now with us empowering Laudato Clubs and taking action in the one million indigenous and fruit tree planting drive to promote environmental sustainability, and as a commitment to caring for God’s creation and ensuring a better future for generations to come.

The award received by the John Paul II Justice and Peace Centre is a well-deserved recognition of their tireless efforts in promoting justice, peace, and the spirituality of John Paul II within the community. Through our work together they have shown that faith and resilience can truly make a difference in the world and inspire others to follow in our footsteps. Let us all strive to emulate their example and work towards building a more just and peaceful world for all.
