We are fortunate in Uganda to be surrounded by lush trees and green vegetation. Seeing our environment thrive brings me joy. However, I feel saddened when I see Ugandans cutting trees which leads to drought, soil erosion and contributes to global warming.
Global warming refers to the rise in the temperatures on the earth’s surface. This issue directly affects Ugandans causing our crops to wither, our streams to dry up and make our lives miserable.
To combat this environmental crisis, I urge all Uganda’s to adopt simple yet effective principles that promote environmental conservation. Let’s stop cutting down trees for firewood and instead use biogas, solar energy or other sustainable practices for cooking. We can also join environmental clubs, organizations or initiatives that teach sustainable practices and promote eco-friendly living.
Together, we can create simple yet effective rules, such as ‘’cut one tree, plant five’’. Together, we can protect our beautiful country, preserve our natural resources and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
As responsible citizens, it’s our duty to take action and make a positive impact on our environment. Let’s join hands, take ownership of our actions and strive to create a better, greener Uganda.
