Mudslides are increasingly posing a serious risk to communities in Uganda. Recently, residents of Karagura in the Kabarole District of Buyangabu experienced the devastating impact of a mudslide.

To mitigate the risk of mudslides, communities can take several proactive measures:

1. Reforestation: Planting trees and vegetation can help stabilize soil and absorb excess water, reducing the likelihood of mudslides.

2. Proper Land Use: Avoiding deforestation and implementing sustainable agricultural practices can prevent soil erosion and maintain the integrity of the land.

3. Drainage Systems: Installing proper drainage systems can help divert water away from vulnerable areas, minimizing the accumulation of water that can trigger mudslides.

4. Community Awareness: Educating residents about the signs of potential mudslides and the importance of reporting unusual water flow or soil movement can enhance community preparedness.

5. Building Regulations: Enforcing strict building codes in at-risk areas can prevent construction on unstable land, thereby reducing vulnerability to mudslides.

By taking these steps, communities can better protect themselves from the dangers posed by mudslides. However, the government needs to also put in place strategies that will help safeguard the citizens. #laudatoyouthinitiative #mudslides #uganda

Did you know that nature is the best teacher?

In Uganda, institutions are encouraged through the New curriculum to give students hands-on experience with practical environmental issues taking place in our Country. The realities like landslide formation! in Mbale pot-ray the unique collaboration between nature and humanity. Laudato Youth feel this is a great step for the Ministry of Education because care for our common home is not just about learning in the classroom—it’s about raising awareness among our youth about the environmental challenges we face today.

By engaging with real-world scenarios, these students are becoming advocates for our planet and have self driven motivation to take action. Laudato Clubs in schools have taken a solid stand to inspire our young people in this regard. Let’s together inspire our future leaders to protect and cherish our common home! @holycrosslakeview

Laudato Youth are Eco Worriers: Every small action counts when it comes to preserving our planet? Today, our Laudato club at Mountains of the Moon University had the pleasure of visiting and weeding their trees they planted at the begining of the semester. Its not about just planting but also caring and relplacing trees where needed.

We want to extend a huge thanks to them as their hard work and dedication inspire us all!

Together, we’re not just planting trees; we’re nurturing our environment and creating a greener future. Let’s keep this momentum going!
