SUMMARY:Laudato Si Clubs President to Participate in Vatican African Conference on Climate Resilience
DESCRIPTION:From climate crisis to climate resilience in Africa at local and regional levels\n\n\n\nStrengthening Climate Resilience through partnerships\, networking\, science and policy\, and consultations with society for positive actions. Mobilizing and strengthening the voices and actions of decentralized governments (mayors and governors) at local\, sub-national\, national\, and regional levels\, as well as Climate COP 2025. Special emphasis on youth. \nWith Youth Engagement\, as an integral part of the conference \nOur Laudato Si Clubs President Sarah Kirikumwino together with Bethany Land Institute and other youth leaders will attend this conference organized by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS) and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences (PASS). \n\n\n\nAt the heart of the summit lies a powerful framework—Mitigation\, Adaptation\, and Societal Transformation (MAST)—designed to bend the climate curve\, reduce vulnerabilities\, and galvanize support for lasting change. This pivotal gathering will contribute to the development of city and regional Protocols for Climate Resilience\, serving as key inputs to COP30\, COP31\, and the Final Vatican Summit in 2026. It also aims to catalyze capacity-building initiatives that will empower communities across Africa to implement climate solutions from the ground up. \nWe are happy to participate in this impactful event and be part of an initiative that is shaping a global blueprint for climate resilience\, starting in Africa. This initiative amplifies voices for our role in living out the values of Laudato Si’ and responding to the urgent climate crisis in Africa. Shaping ground for our African interpretation of Laudato Si. \n\n\n\nThe Africa Summit: Strategic orientation and implementation \n\n\n\nRegional Contexts: Tailor solutions to Africa’s unique and diverse climate challenges and socio- economic\, political/governance\, and cultural contexts\, including exploring the role of forests and related nature based\, and science based solutions. \nYouth Engagement\, as an integral part of the conference \nCommunity Engagement: Involve local communities\, farmers\, pastoralists\, Indigenous groups\, and regional stakeholders in discussions and decision-making. Invite PAS/PASS academicians with scholarly expertise and interest in the African conference. \nRegional Collaboration: Foster regional and international cooperation and knowledge sharing to develop effective\, innovative and scalable climate solutions.\nEquity: Ensure that the summit prioritizes equity and the protection of the poorest and most vulnerable populations\, including Indigenous people\, children\, and youth. Address the disproportionate impacts of climate change on marginalized communities and incorporate diverse perspectives in climate planning. \nCivil Society and Episcopal Conference Engagement: The conference shall include and actively engage religious communities\, such as the regional episcopal bishops’ conference. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nViews of the Laudato Youth Initiative and Conference of Parties (COPs) \nCOP30 \nRethinking the Role of Corporate Climate Action: A Ugandan Perspective with Laudato Youth Initiative; Stewards of the Future.\nCOP29 \nThe international response to the climate crisis needs to bridge the gap between Cop summits and the experience of those who face its consequences. It must ignite hope for a climate-resilient generation\n
